Developing Problem Solvers

I am a good problem solver. How did I become a problem solver? I went outside to play, by myself, from as young as I can remember. Sometimes I walked down the street to my friends and we played all by ourselves, inside and outside. We made choices, we took risks (we didn't know that we were taking risks), but we did ‘push the envelope’. I was left to my own devices. I played in the river out back, unsupervised.

Allow them to take risks.

Don’t give kids all the solutions or do it for them. When they cry, don’t go running to them, walk slowly. Most often by the time you get there, the crying has disappeared and so has the kid.
